Leak Detection

Learn more about how River Rock Water Gardens can find those pesky leaks in your water feature.

A leaky pond is not what you had in mind when dreaming of your backyard pond paradise. Still, occasionally things settle or have holes that need to be repaired.

Finding and fixing a leak can be exhausting and a guessing game. River Rock Water Gardens experts follow a series of steps to help narrow down the culprit and help you stop stressing about a high water bill or a soggy yard.

The first step is to make sure that the water loss is not simply evaporation. Especially during the high heat months of summer, ponds can lose up to an inch and a half a week.

Depending on how the height and number of waterfalls in your water feature, that may be the answer to your mystery. 5 feet of cascading waterfalls may lose as much as 2 inches EVERY DAY!

Things settle over time and ponds are no exception. The easiest fix is to look for low edges that may have settled and have water running over the side. Look for wet mulch, dirt or gravel. The solution may just be to lift up the line and add more soil underneath to raise the edge.

As life surrounds your pond, rocks and gravel can move. Make sure those rocks or aquatic plants aren’t interfering with water flow in the stream or waterfall causing water to run out.

Next, a technician will check the plumbing and pumps to make sure there is not a leak in those areas.

Occasionally, leaks are due to a puncture in the liner. This task is much harder to locate but we are specialized in finding liner punctures and with time, we can find it. Keep in mind, liner punctures are very time consuming and difficult to locate. While we have a series of steps to find a leak, it MAY take many hours or visits.
